I am going to preface this by saying that I am going to spoil this movie (2012) in the following paragraphs and so if you’re the sort of person that doesn’t
like that happening to you then you should stop reading when I tell you to! But if you've seen one Roland Emmerich movie then I'm pretty sure you know how the movie will play out.
I went to see 2012 with my cousin and I was not dragged. I willingly went and saw it and actually I can give you a little preface on the whole thing.
First Zack told me about it and I saw the teaser trailer where not much happens except destruction and a lot of black and 2012 coming soon. And I thought yeah there’s action so I’ll go see it.
Second I saw another teaser trailer with just a little bit more and I thought to myself that I would still go see it but I don’t know if I would race to theater to see it.
Third I saw the actual trailer where you get to see who’s starring in it because before I never paid attention to it and this was my reaction “OMG JOHN CUSACK IS IN THIS?!?! OMG I must go see this! I will be there opening weekend!”
Alright now that we’ve established that I love John Cusack and will simply be biased about anything from here on out you might want to skip this review altogether! No just kidding read it because I might be making fun of 2012! Although I totally think everyone should go see it because it’s so bad that it’s really good! Worth that 10 bucks (well in my case 7.25 since I went to the matinee.)
This is where you should stop reading!
This film was directed by Roland Emmerich who directed such
films as Independence Day which is FREAKIN awesome and you know possibly one of
the best action movies of my time.
You just can’t go wrong with Will Smith beating up aliens and stuff. Then he
moved on to direct such films as The Day After Tomorrow which I think I was
some how tricked in to seeing because ID4 was so awesome that I thought that
you know he could do it again! I think maybe The Day After Tomorrow’s only real
redeeming quality is that Jake Gyllenhaal is in it which is why it has a place
in my DVD collection and well I kind of liked it. Kind of…
Moving on…
So is it me or does every single Roland Emmerich “The earth
is in terrible peril” movie kind of have the same story line? I don’t know if
that last sentence really made sense but here’s the thing they all have the
same story line! You see he starts out the movie with some catastrophic event
that some scientist finds out about and has to go tell the world and at first
the person he wants to tell doesn’t want to listen to him and then he does!
Then he’s like you better get ready because you are about to meet the
president! Then switches to a scene with the president telling other countries
that the world is coming to an end in so many years! ONLY the scientist guy got
it WRONG! It turns out you only have like 30 minutes to prepare for whatever is
inevitable. Well ok I’m exaggerating there were a couple of years where they
obviously had to prepare for the end of the world in this movie but the
scientist still calculated wrong and they quickly have to alter things. Also
there always seems to be a divorced couple that finds each other in the end
again.
So basically the first few scenes is “omg the world is
coming to an end because of some scientific stuff that I can’t even go in to”
and it basically takes forever to get to scenes with John Cusack (yay!). John
Cusack is a divorced father of two who hates the guy his ex-wife is dating and
his son is basically angry at him. Also his daughter has a thing for hats which
I think is suppose to serve for some comic relief for something that happens
later on in the movie when LA is falling in to the ocean. Anyways John(YAY!) or
Jackson takes his kids on a camping trip that ultimately will be cut short
because Amanda Peet’s character wants him to bring them home immediately due to
the fact that she was in the grocery store when a major earth quake happened
that split it in half. Sorry about that run on sentence! While they are on this
camping trip they meet Woody Harrelson who of course plays this crazy character
and Jackson finds out all this conspiracy type stuff that’s going on and how
the end of the world is near and that these giant “ships” are being built but
you have to have lots of money to get on them! Also Woody Harrelson’s character
likes pickles just throwing that out there.
So Jackson (YAY!) brings his kids back and then it turns out
he is a limo driver for some Russian rich guy and finds out that this rich guy
is actually going to get on the “ship”. Oh and you know basically LA is about
to become nothing and that’s pretty much what happens for the next few scenes.
Jackson some how manages to get a plane and rescues his kids, Amanda peet and
the boyfriend (Gordon) and they make it to the air port just in time only the
pilot is dead! But that’s ok because Gordon knows how to fly a plane or just
barely I guess which also serves as some comic relief. For whatever reason they
are unable to really get the plane in the air so they have to fly through all
the tumbling buildings and blah blah blah. My cousin had to make a comment
about it to which I told her to be quiet because a.)John Cusack(YAY!) is in
this movie and b.) I love action and all I could think about was how good this
would look on blu-ray!
Sooo after all that they go back to get the map from crazy
Woody Harrelson who doesn’t want to go with them and wants to die while
watching the world come to an end and die he does. But the catch is the ships
are in China!
They have to get a bigger plane! Turns out they run in to Jackson’s (YAY!) Russian
boss and then they have a plane! Only they need a co-pilot but that’s ok
because Gordon knows how to fly a plane but not really! Also Gordon is a
plastic surgeon and did the Russian boss’s girlfriend’s(who I will now call
RBG) boobs so they know each other. RBG is really nice and apparently was
having an affair with some other guy and so when they finally make it to China
,and not without a lot of trouble either, Russian boss ditches them all but he
doesn’t make it on the ships anyways.
Well whatever Jackson(YAY!) and Co.
plus RBG and RBG’s dog some how make it to the ships that turn out to be not
space ships but arks. They sneak on to the ships with some help only a lot of
stuff happens and you know they almost don’t make it and basically I’m getting
tired of writing everything that happens in this movie because it was 2 hours
38 minutes! Which actually it didn’t feel that long since enough was going on
that I was entertained! But they almost don’t make it..well RBG doesn’t make it
and neither does Gordon. Which come on that’s just not fair! All Gordon wanted
was a family and to be happy and thought Jackson(YAY!) was so lucky! But Gordon
had to die obviously so that Jackson and Amanda Peet could find each other
again and the family could live happily ever after!
On a side note there are a lot of other scenes I’m not
mentioning like the President dieing in a huge Tsunami wave because he insisted
on staying behind rather then going to the ships with everyone else. There is
also a lot of other around the world scenes where the world is coming to an end
and more science guy scenes as well.
And lastly as my cousin says the whole world meets its end
except for the thing that is meant to save them. That some how manages to make
it through it all and they set sail for Africa because of course there is still
land for people to populate.
Now what did I learn from this movie? That if I’m not rich then I sure as heck
better go to Yellowstone and meet some crazy Wood Harrelson type character to
tell me about said “ships” so that I can make my way to China. That or find
John Cusack(YAY!) because I’m certain he’ll know what to do!
A lot has been going on that I can't even begin to talk about but it's been bringing me down lately. So instead of talking about that I thought I would just post pictures of other things that I have been doing or have been stuck doing (i.e. school work).
I have seen a couple of movies though in between some of this and those were Angels and Demons and Up. However unfortunately in the last few minutes of Up the power went out and stopped the movie. Basically this sort of produced chaos. Everyone was trying to get out of the theater and it was very dark and crowds of people were pouring out of the theaters...you know everyone needs a little excitement in their day. We could have gotten a rain check but it was almost over and we all just wanted to go home.
The first two books in the House of Night Series, Marked and Betrayed, were ok reads but the third one I was so annoyed with the main character. I felt like she just did not care about anyone in her life but herself and she kept making up excuses about what she was doing like she couldn't help it. I also felt she was a little hipocritical and I felt like the author beat us in the head with certain things about her....with that all said I still couldn't put any of them down because even though they are terribly written I still want to know what happens. I read The BeeKeeper's Apprentice for my book club. I thought it was pretty enjoyable although I it felt like I had been reading it forever. The Hunger Games was soo good and I would have read it faster if I hadn't started summer school. The one book that's not in this picture is Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult which I read during finals..I basically recommend anything that Joid Picoult writes, she's just very good at making things sound interesting and of the three books I've read she's always had some sort of twist that comes out in the end. 3 Willows was enjoyable but I think I like The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants series better.
Lastly Zack got me this. This is one of my most favorite artist and I already can picture where I want to put it.
Max Payne: Max Payne is trying to get vengeance or revenge on the death of his family. I think I’m going to have to go with vengeance because dictionary.com says that it is a “Violent revenge”. I liked this movie for about an hour especially because Sucre was in it and I liked him….. for about an hour. Once that hour was up I got kind of bored and started surfing the internet.
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist: I blind bought this movie but I’m glad I did. It’s one of those movies where a whole bunch of stuff happens in one night like Go. Although it was a lot better then Go and the music was really good, which actually I have the Go soundtrack and the music was good in it to. Nick and Norah are kind of pushed together to push out Nick’s ex-bitch (sorry there's no other way to describe her) of a girlfriend Tris. There is only one part that I was like cringing and felt the need to fast forward past but it was because I was so embarrassed for her, Tris that is. I know I was embarrassed for the ex-girlfriend! As a side note, I swear I know Tris or at least someone like her and actually looks kind of like her to.
Confessions of a Shopaholic: This movie is based off the book Confessions of A Shopaholic, which happens to be a book I love. I own all of them except Shopaholic and Sister because I was seriously poor when that one came out so I had to resort to getting it at the library. I’m not dissing the library here as I go there weekly* but usually I buy the books of authors that I love. But again I was poor, like so poor that I was buying food at McDonalds with change. Also because it was the first time the Shopaholic book came out in hardback my mom would not I repeat not help me out by buying it for me. Plus she is a strong advocate of the library.
WOW I just deviated from talking about the movie to my personal problems and my lack of funds. Ok so they really Americanized the book for the movie and it takes place in New York not in London. For some reason when I read the book I didn’t really pick up on the emotional implications of Becky’s shopping problems but I did in the movie. I was kind of annoyed because they changed Luke’s character a little bit as well as a lot of the plot but I still enjoyed and probably will be buying it.
So last night I went to the Gaslight Theater with Summer, Chris and Zack. The current show was The Ballad of Two-Gun McGraw. What they do is do spoof type plays that are hilarious. The Christmas one is often the Christmas Carol and the next show is Harley’s Angels., which I think I’m going to have to see because it starts around my birthday. I always say that I want to go but we often don’t end up going but this is something I might want to do…for my birthday. You can order dessert and food! I had a chocolate shake but for some reason I wasn’t very hungry last night and didn’t eat much of my dinner or of my chocolate shake, I suck. They also bring the audience in to the play and when they mess up or adlib it’s very funny. ANYWAY I really enjoyed last nights, I hadn’t seen that one before (I have seen the Christmas Carol several times).
Today I’m going to see He’s Just Not That Into You with my mom so maybe I’ll discuss that later. I will not be discussing Wuthering Heights because that book angered me, I did not care for any of characters. I felt they were all self-indulged and self obsessed, Heathcliffe was among the worst. Ok so I did just kind of talk about it.
* This is probably an exaggeration
- My throat hurts so much that it feels like I'm swallowing knives and I feel so so tired. I think this justifies my not going to my one class today. Although I'm sure he'll announce something really really important since I'm not going. I guess I'll just have to take the chance anyway and stay home and watch Gossip Girl and Smallville or some girly movie because those always make me feel better.
- Clark just asked out Lana on Smallville*...ok I know I'm like way behind the times because this is Season 2 and she ends up with Lex Luthor or something like that. But I don't care he just asked her out and it was so cute. Tom Welling is so cute. He has these facial expressions that sometimes I just have to rewind and watch him do it again. I sound like a 12 year old so I'll stop now.
- Apparently there is suppose to be a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and I'm not sure how I feel about this. I will have to see it before I judge, it could end up being better the then the second 2. But I really liked all three of the first ones and I feel they ended Will & Elizabeth's story which that's what the stories really revolved around so I'm really wondering what a fourth one could be about.
- Zack got me Penelope, isn't that nice of him?
eta: *I spoke to soon, that episode went bad for Clark and Lana
Zack and I decided to do a photo scavenger hunt on our own. We had to come up with something you think is cute, a favorite place, your desk drawer, something from
above, and a picture of a song you love. Maybe next time we'll be a little more ambitious and do more then five things but I thought we'd start off slow plus I have homework up to here. You'll just have to think what here is metaphorically. Also as I've said previously my camera sucks!
Anyways here are my pictures
This was hard because a lot of my favorite songs have random names so I kind of had to pick an easy way out. I picked Close Your Eyes (Buffy/Angel theme song) by Christophe Beck. It actually is one of my favorite songs as I have played it 126 times on itunes and makes it into my top 25 most played songs.
- I feel like I can finally be myself again
- Ice cream is good for the soul especially Dairy Queen.
- We played Skip-bo last night which was interesting to say the least. There was a lot of quoting from movies and bad jokes and some alcohol and I just laughed and laughed. I felt happy for the first time in a long time.
- I'm still having problems with TMJ, terrible problems actually. I'm going to run out of my medicine soon to and I don't know what I'll do about that.
- School is ok, I have a class that I'm afraid of but I find everything that I'm learning very interesting. I'm mostly afraid of it because the tests are essay style and those make me want to break out in a rash and/or make my anxiety level go up higher then it normally is. My anxiety level is normally a little high because of my disorder but this just makes it sky rocket. I think Professors know students hate essay style exams so why do they insist on doing them. I think I'm breaking out in a rash just thinking about it.
- I'm watching Season One of Joan of Arcadia that I got from the library. I actually watched it when it was on TV but I missed a couple of episodes so I wanted to see them PLUS hello the library is now carrying TV on DVD how awesome is that? It's FREE! I can even get Season 2 however as a result of this I haven't been reading at all. I've just been watching and now I have season one of Smallville from the library to. Also I should mention that I have probably cried at least once during every episode of Joan of Arcadia that I've watched so far. I don't know what that says about me.
- The season premier of Gossip Girl was awesome and I LOVE Blair and her wardrobe. The pilot of 90210 was not so intrigueing plus for some reason the channel here was not picking it up very well. It kept skipping and the sound kept going out so I missed the entire speech between Harry and Naomi's mother, I don't remember her name. I thought I would give it a couple more episodes but it's just not really catching my attention not the way Gossip Girl does. I felt I had to give it a chance because 90210 was probably the first "adult" or "teen" show that I had to watch and if I was going to miss it I would tape it. I have the DVR set up to record Fringe also so I have my fingers crossed that it will be good.
- Ok now it's just going to sound like I watch to much TV but we, Summer, Chris, Zack and I, are watching season three of Supernatural FINALLY! I bought it Wednesday night which was an interesting night. Sitting in the front of Chris's car in between Laura and Summer, because the kids were in car seats in the back and there was no room for a third person back there. I wish I had a picture of that. I wish I had a better camera but I don't. The one I have will do for now. We went to Target...I love Target. Target gave me a free 2009 Supernatural Calendar full of pretty pretty pictures of Dean and Sam.
- So here's a picture to end this post
Friday I babysat Addison, luckily she slept until 9:30 in the morning so I got to sneak in a little nap on their couch. Their, Summer and Chris's, cat Gizmo slept on my stomach with me which was ok until he started making bread on it, digging claws. Chris came home early so I went home for a little bit and had a happy hour with my mom while we watched Paula Dean episodes she had DVRed. Then Zack came and picked me up to go back over to Summer and Chris's. Summer and I both had two ideas for dinner and it turned out they were both the same so we made the boys choose, Casa Del Rio or Applebees. They chose Applebees and so we went to the Grant one because it tends to be less of a wait. We all shared mozzarella sticks and boneless buffalo wings and then Zack and I shared the Oriental Chicken roll up, which is insanely good. After that we went back to their house and they made some kind of pinapple drink with grenadine and alcohol which was really good and we played Uno Attack. There was a lot of name calling and "SUCKA," and it was actually pretty fun. Addison kept pushing the button on Uno Attack though, she'd sneak her little hand past us and just push it. Then she'd look at us like "what?!?!"
Saturday I slept in to much and then spent the whole afternoon reading the last of Breaking Dawn and then Zack came over. He brought me his Wii so that I can play it until I go back to school in two weeks. I thought I only had 1 and 1/2 weeks but apparently I'm wrong I have 2 weeks. I've been playing Paper Mario which is really addicting because it's a lot like the original Mario and I've been perfecting my Mario Kart skills. We went out and talked to my mom for two hours, actually it was more like "let's go bug my mom" because she only had like two pages left in her book. Then he took me over to meet his sister for the first time, she made chicken tortilla soup which was really good. I can't tell you what she put in it but it was so good I had seconds and then we just sat around talking about what she's learning in school, past boyfriends and the guy she is currently dating. I found that I liked her and I felt comfortable talking to her. Later on after Zack took me home my jaw started bothering me so I had to take my medicine which pretty much knocks me out.
Then today I woke up and read some of The Book Thief and had a toaster strudel, which I love but the toaster never cooks it enough. I've just realized I'm talking about food a lot but I'll probably talk about it some more. I have no pictures to document any of this either :o(. I need a new digital camera mine is going so I'm in the market. So my brother and his family came down and we all had to watch an episode of Pinks All Out that my dad had dvred while we were gone since it was one that was filmed here in Tucson and one of the racers was one of my dad's really good friends son. Then we had a family (with Zack as well since he wanted to meet Bryan even though I warned him that we didn't know where he came from, he's like the mail man's kid or something) Bar-B-Que which there was a lot of food. There was chicken, steak, a big salad, dip both avocado, which I can't eat because I'm allergic to, and ranch, potato chips and then there were carrots and other veggies. For dessert there were sugar cookies...bought from the store! After that Zack and I just sat and talked for awhile and then he went home.
My mom and I then watched Vantage Point, which I actually enjoyed and I got in to my watermelon eegee that Chris and Summer gotten me while I was gone. Watermelon is the flavor of the month for July and I was gone for the entire month so I missed out on it. They ended up getting me a 34 oz cup of it! Then I went and played Paper Mario which yeah hard for me to stop playing once I start.
