I'm doing my own project where I watch all my comfort movies before I go back to school at the end of August, which I'll be really busy sadly since I have to take four classes on top of a correspondence class. Should be interesting but on the plus side hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll be graduating in December!
The reason I started this project is because I'm pretty sure I'm going through a bout of depression right now and I need something to take my mind off it. I've been reading to but somehow movies have always been really comforting to me. So the first movie I decided to watch is Finding Nemo:
I saw this movie a few times in the theater and I loved it each time. I remember the first time I saw it, the part where Dory thinks she can speak whale just pretty much had me rolling in laughter. I still find the movie enjoyable and funny which is why it is a comfort movie for me. This movie reminds me of living in the condo with Summer and Chris. I use to sleep with my window open there because we were upstairs and my room was in the part that was gated off. My room had a little window seat that I use to like to sit in with pillows and read. I also would set my lap top up on it. There was one night that I was watching Finding Nemo on my lap top making screen captures when Summer came in and we ended up watching it all together with Kyle and his now ex-girlfriend. This for some reason really sticks out in my mind as a comforting night.
Another memory of this movie is that I went to Washington the summer it came out and two times Jennie and I tried to go see it. The first time we went we just ended up being to late and we saw something else. The second time we brought my other cousin Jay with me and it was opening day for Pirates of the Caribbean. So while we were waiting in line I turned to Jennie and said “I really want to see Pirates of the Caribbean”. To which she said “me to” and then we asked Jay if it was alright if we went to see it instead, and so we did, which was worth it btw. Finally we got to go see it together and so I associate this movie with that time to. Just getting to be with my family and friends is a real comfort to me.
Max Payne: Max Payne is trying to get vengeance or revenge on the death of his family. I think I’m going to have to go with vengeance because dictionary.com says that it is a “Violent revenge”. I liked this movie for about an hour especially because Sucre was in it and I liked him….. for about an hour. Once that hour was up I got kind of bored and started surfing the internet.
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist: I blind bought this movie but I’m glad I did. It’s one of those movies where a whole bunch of stuff happens in one night like Go. Although it was a lot better then Go and the music was really good, which actually I have the Go soundtrack and the music was good in it to. Nick and Norah are kind of pushed together to push out Nick’s ex-bitch (sorry there's no other way to describe her) of a girlfriend Tris. There is only one part that I was like cringing and felt the need to fast forward past but it was because I was so embarrassed for her, Tris that is. I know I was embarrassed for the ex-girlfriend! As a side note, I swear I know Tris or at least someone like her and actually looks kind of like her to.
Confessions of a Shopaholic: This movie is based off the book Confessions of A Shopaholic, which happens to be a book I love. I own all of them except Shopaholic and Sister because I was seriously poor when that one came out so I had to resort to getting it at the library. I’m not dissing the library here as I go there weekly* but usually I buy the books of authors that I love. But again I was poor, like so poor that I was buying food at McDonalds with change. Also because it was the first time the Shopaholic book came out in hardback my mom would not I repeat not help me out by buying it for me. Plus she is a strong advocate of the library.
WOW I just deviated from talking about the movie to my personal problems and my lack of funds. Ok so they really Americanized the book for the movie and it takes place in New York not in London. For some reason when I read the book I didn’t really pick up on the emotional implications of Becky’s shopping problems but I did in the movie. I was kind of annoyed because they changed Luke’s character a little bit as well as a lot of the plot but I still enjoyed and probably will be buying it.
So last night I went to the Gaslight Theater with Summer, Chris and Zack. The current show was The Ballad of Two-Gun McGraw. What they do is do spoof type plays that are hilarious. The Christmas one is often the Christmas Carol and the next show is Harley’s Angels., which I think I’m going to have to see because it starts around my birthday. I always say that I want to go but we often don’t end up going but this is something I might want to do…for my birthday. You can order dessert and food! I had a chocolate shake but for some reason I wasn’t very hungry last night and didn’t eat much of my dinner or of my chocolate shake, I suck. They also bring the audience in to the play and when they mess up or adlib it’s very funny. ANYWAY I really enjoyed last nights, I hadn’t seen that one before (I have seen the Christmas Carol several times).
Today I’m going to see He’s Just Not That Into You with my mom so maybe I’ll discuss that later. I will not be discussing Wuthering Heights because that book angered me, I did not care for any of characters. I felt they were all self-indulged and self obsessed, Heathcliffe was among the worst. Ok so I did just kind of talk about it.
* This is probably an exaggeration
There is a commercial where a girl is going up the escalator and she sees cookies coming out of the oven. She keeps talking about how those look good and instead takes out her gum and has a piece of that instead. They say that gum will satisfy her snack craving..NEVER would that in a million years satisfy me if I literally saw the cookies coming out of the oven and then smelled them. NEVER...
Chris: A cookie sounds good
Me: A cookie does sounds good.
Summer: What did you have for dinner?
Me: A salad.
Summer: Doesn't a cookie defeat the purpose of that?
Me: No...I think it rounds out the meal nicely...
So in result of that commercial I did not crave a piece of gum. I craved a chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven...
- I feel like I can finally be myself again
- Ice cream is good for the soul especially Dairy Queen.
- We played Skip-bo last night which was interesting to say the least. There was a lot of quoting from movies and bad jokes and some alcohol and I just laughed and laughed. I felt happy for the first time in a long time.
- I'm still having problems with TMJ, terrible problems actually. I'm going to run out of my medicine soon to and I don't know what I'll do about that.
- School is ok, I have a class that I'm afraid of but I find everything that I'm learning very interesting. I'm mostly afraid of it because the tests are essay style and those make me want to break out in a rash and/or make my anxiety level go up higher then it normally is. My anxiety level is normally a little high because of my disorder but this just makes it sky rocket. I think Professors know students hate essay style exams so why do they insist on doing them. I think I'm breaking out in a rash just thinking about it.
- I'm watching Season One of Joan of Arcadia that I got from the library. I actually watched it when it was on TV but I missed a couple of episodes so I wanted to see them PLUS hello the library is now carrying TV on DVD how awesome is that? It's FREE! I can even get Season 2 however as a result of this I haven't been reading at all. I've just been watching and now I have season one of Smallville from the library to. Also I should mention that I have probably cried at least once during every episode of Joan of Arcadia that I've watched so far. I don't know what that says about me.
- The season premier of Gossip Girl was awesome and I LOVE Blair and her wardrobe. The pilot of 90210 was not so intrigueing plus for some reason the channel here was not picking it up very well. It kept skipping and the sound kept going out so I missed the entire speech between Harry and Naomi's mother, I don't remember her name. I thought I would give it a couple more episodes but it's just not really catching my attention not the way Gossip Girl does. I felt I had to give it a chance because 90210 was probably the first "adult" or "teen" show that I had to watch and if I was going to miss it I would tape it. I have the DVR set up to record Fringe also so I have my fingers crossed that it will be good.
- Ok now it's just going to sound like I watch to much TV but we, Summer, Chris, Zack and I, are watching season three of Supernatural FINALLY! I bought it Wednesday night which was an interesting night. Sitting in the front of Chris's car in between Laura and Summer, because the kids were in car seats in the back and there was no room for a third person back there. I wish I had a picture of that. I wish I had a better camera but I don't. The one I have will do for now. We went to Target...I love Target. Target gave me a free 2009 Supernatural Calendar full of pretty pretty pictures of Dean and Sam.
- So here's a picture to end this post
Friday I babysat Addison, luckily she slept until 9:30 in the morning so I got to sneak in a little nap on their couch. Their, Summer and Chris's, cat Gizmo slept on my stomach with me which was ok until he started making bread on it, digging claws. Chris came home early so I went home for a little bit and had a happy hour with my mom while we watched Paula Dean episodes she had DVRed. Then Zack came and picked me up to go back over to Summer and Chris's. Summer and I both had two ideas for dinner and it turned out they were both the same so we made the boys choose, Casa Del Rio or Applebees. They chose Applebees and so we went to the Grant one because it tends to be less of a wait. We all shared mozzarella sticks and boneless buffalo wings and then Zack and I shared the Oriental Chicken roll up, which is insanely good. After that we went back to their house and they made some kind of pinapple drink with grenadine and alcohol which was really good and we played Uno Attack. There was a lot of name calling and "SUCKA," and it was actually pretty fun. Addison kept pushing the button on Uno Attack though, she'd sneak her little hand past us and just push it. Then she'd look at us like "what?!?!"
Saturday I slept in to much and then spent the whole afternoon reading the last of Breaking Dawn and then Zack came over. He brought me his Wii so that I can play it until I go back to school in two weeks. I thought I only had 1 and 1/2 weeks but apparently I'm wrong I have 2 weeks. I've been playing Paper Mario which is really addicting because it's a lot like the original Mario and I've been perfecting my Mario Kart skills. We went out and talked to my mom for two hours, actually it was more like "let's go bug my mom" because she only had like two pages left in her book. Then he took me over to meet his sister for the first time, she made chicken tortilla soup which was really good. I can't tell you what she put in it but it was so good I had seconds and then we just sat around talking about what she's learning in school, past boyfriends and the guy she is currently dating. I found that I liked her and I felt comfortable talking to her. Later on after Zack took me home my jaw started bothering me so I had to take my medicine which pretty much knocks me out.
Then today I woke up and read some of The Book Thief and had a toaster strudel, which I love but the toaster never cooks it enough. I've just realized I'm talking about food a lot but I'll probably talk about it some more. I have no pictures to document any of this either :o(. I need a new digital camera mine is going so I'm in the market. So my brother and his family came down and we all had to watch an episode of Pinks All Out that my dad had dvred while we were gone since it was one that was filmed here in Tucson and one of the racers was one of my dad's really good friends son. Then we had a family (with Zack as well since he wanted to meet Bryan even though I warned him that we didn't know where he came from, he's like the mail man's kid or something) Bar-B-Que which there was a lot of food. There was chicken, steak, a big salad, dip both avocado, which I can't eat because I'm allergic to, and ranch, potato chips and then there were carrots and other veggies. For dessert there were sugar cookies...bought from the store! After that Zack and I just sat and talked for awhile and then he went home.
My mom and I then watched Vantage Point, which I actually enjoyed and I got in to my watermelon eegee that Chris and Summer gotten me while I was gone. Watermelon is the flavor of the month for July and I was gone for the entire month so I missed out on it. They ended up getting me a 34 oz cup of it! Then I went and played Paper Mario which yeah hard for me to stop playing once I start.
Before you read this it's possible there are spoilers but not really because I don't really talk about what happened.
So after watching Cloverfield the following conversation happened.
Summer: Seriously?
Christa: No...Could someone...I mean what...
Summer: Was the point of that movie?
Christa: Yes!
Chris: I thought it was good but there's no closure.
I clicked over to the special features
Christa: Ohhh Alternate endings!
Watch Alternate endings (alternate ending one sucked) and then I discovered something from the second alternate ending.
Chris: Ok now we have to watch the ending the actually used to see if it's that scene
We did watch it again and lo and behold there it was..and it all made sense. Not really since there was still no closure but at least I saw the point of all those extra footage that was stuck through the film of some day on coney island.
Christa: I think this movie has to be watched again just to see if there was something we missed. Well at least it kept my attention the whole time.
I thought I'd write about my week instead of writing about how jaded I am (not sad but blah). I am actually not really sure how to describe how I feel to be honest.
Anyway I had off so I sat around in my pajamas all day and watched random episodes of Friends and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with my mom. Then Tues-Fri I went to class. Thursday I stayed down at the school the whole time and I was sitting on one of the pillars outside of the building to my next class reading Harry Potter and a cute guy came up and sat down across from me. Nothing happened though which is the story of my life all though I could have imagined things happening. Like possibly getting enough guts to say hi myself.
Friday night I went over to Summer and Chris's and they got Little Caesar's ($5 dollar pizza) Pizza which is sooo good and we also had breadsticks. While we were waiting in line to get the pizza Summer and I mourned the loss of Heath Ledger and realized that both of us were in denial about this unreal piece of news. Unreal to us anyway. After watching 1 Vs 100 and Friday Night Lights we watched a couple episodes from season two of Supernatural. Then today I went up to Casa Grand to go to this BeautyControl Spa day party that Susan had which was actually kind of fun. And I discovered this hand wash that makes your hands very soft immediately after washing it off. My mom ended up getting some of it for us to share!
I also decided that I needed to see the movie The Patriot and I put it my queue on blockbuster. Only apparently I'm not the only one with this idea because the words Very Long Wait appeared next to it which means it would take a very long time for me to get a copy of it. So I just ended up dropping the money on it and buying a copy of it at Circuit City. Of course I went to Best Buy first to see if they had it and of course they were out. And Circuit City only had one copy. Needless to say I didn't hesitate in buying it.
