....I finished City of Glass last night. She put in a Harry Potter reference again and I don't know if she does it on purpose or if it's something she doesn't even realize she's doing. This time she said "but you look like him*-except for your eyes, those are your mother's". Honestly that almost ruined the whole entire book for me because it was a blatant rip off of Harry Potter but I digress. (I just looked that up to make sure I was using it correctly). Anyway I did really like the book besides that nonsense and I liked the way it ended. The weird thing is the whole time I read the book I had this feeling that she was writing it in a way that she was hoping it would become a movie some day. I can't really explain it but that's just the feeling I got because she would go in to description about things that you swear you could literally see it play out in a movie. I still recommend this series, it was pretty enjoyable.
I read at her website she is actually going to be writing a fourth one even though she finished the series with the three but I guess it is about Simon. She also is writing another book that is with the same people from the mortal instruments but in a different era.
*him = father
I got this book from Barnes and Noble or Borders, one of those two.
But I can't because I'm on a "book buying" ban
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larson (It takes place in Sweden..I am 100% Swedish due to the fact that my mom and my Grandma were both born there. My mom didn't really grow up there though she mostly grew up in the states but my Grandma did grow up there)
- The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
- The Elegance of the Hedgehog - Muriel Barbery
- The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins (I think this book would be perfect to read next month...poo on my book ban.)
- Prophecy of the Sisters - Michelle Zink
Zack and I are doing a book challenge in which I challenged him to read 5 books that I have picked out before next October. I know five books doesn't seem like much especially since I've already almost 50 this year alone but it's a book challenge so that's the way I'm rolling with this one. He also picked out five books but these are the ones that I have picked out for him, I apologize in advance because I copied and pasted this from an e-mail so it's basically written to him:
1.) Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien - Ok I just loved this book and I know it's actually three books but the copy I have is the three in to one so there for I'm counting it as one. One day I would really like to own this! (Which I am totally drooling over.) This is one of those books that I wish...really wish that I could experience for the first time again. I found that I couldn't wait to get back to it while I was reading it. I didn't even want to read it in the beginning! It's length was so daunting and I just couldn't deal but let me tell you it was totally worth it! They leave stuff out in the movies trust me! Although the movies are sooooo good.
2.) Whisper of Death - Christopher Pike - I haven't read this book in over 10 years but I seriously loved it when I did read it. Although I was probably like 14 or something so I don't know if we can really count my 14 year old self on finding good stuff to read since I loved Sweet Valley High books and books by R.L. Stine and Lois Duncan. I probably should reread it myself because other wise if you were to talk to me about it I wouldn't know what exactly you were talking about. But still I'm going to make it a requirement since it was a book that I loved when I was younger!
3.) The first book in The Bartimaeus Trilogy The Amulet of Samarkand - Jonathan Stroud - I kind of wish that I could cheat and put all of them in this list but I can't because they're three seperate books (unlike LotR). I guess my only hope is that you'll like the first one enough to read the rest of them. The second one The Golem's Eye is my favorite of the three and I am seriously considering that should be the book you have to read instead which would just force you to read the first one! HA! But that's probably cheating to. Instead of talking about the first one I'm going to say why I liked The Golem's Eye so much, there was part in it that was slightly creepy and dude it totally worked for me! I was even a little bit scared to go to bed but I don't think the same goes for my brother. He loved this trilogy to as I have said before! The way he ends the series to was just awesome!
4.) The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold - I actually read this book during a hard time in my life and I loved every little bit of it. I read it about 5 years ago (I think) though and my mom was nice enough to get it for me while I was poor. I don't think I could have an in depth discussion over it without rereading it myself but I do think you should read it before we go see the movie, which I am very excited to see. It was another book that I couldn't wait to get in to and I stayed up late in to the night reading it.
5.) The Thirteenth Tale - Diane Setterfiled - I'm picking this book because it kind of has a ghost story/mystery going on and I think you would like it. It's your kind of book and if you don't like it oh well at least you tried it! I can't remember exactly what went on in the book but I did really like it when I was reading it. It was one of the first books I bought when I got my job and I was able to suddenly buy what I ever wanted.
I hope he has fun with this and afterward we're going to discuss whether a.) you're crazy this books sucks or b.) you're a genius this book is superb. I may even post it on the blog and not only are we doing this but in Janauary we are going to start rereading the Harry Potter books, one a month and then have in depth discussions about it. Should be fun.
Totally random side note I went to see Love Happens last night and I really liked it. It also made me miss Seattle like crazy..there's something about Seattle at night to that just gets me in the heart. I really like the soundtrack to it and I had to immediately download the whole thing off itunes as soon as I got home and it's been on repeat ever since.
This year both of my calenders have good pictures for the month of April
The weather is always nice, at least it usually is here.
Easter is usually in April, although sometimes it is in March.
But usually it is in April.
My birthday is in April (Easter is usually right after my birthday or as in the case of two years ago on my birthday, let's just say I got a lot of Easter baskets for my birthday that year)
My best friend got married in April and we always go to dinner in the
restaurant that is in the place where they got married in.
Her daughter's birthday is in April.
So is her mom's.
So basically I get a lot of cake!
I used the word usually a lot in this entry.
There is a game I discovered on a blog called Lost in Books. She picks a topic and then you have to find a quote in a book that fits that topic. This week is Weddings, the thing is I just so happen to be re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows(J.K. Rowling) and last night I just so happen to have read Chapter 8 The Wedding so that is where I got my quote from.
"He had never been to a wedding before, so he could not judge how wizarding celebrations differed from Muggle ones, though he was pretty sure that the latter would not involve a wedding cake topped with two model phoenixes that took flight when the cake was cut, or bottles of champagne that floated unsupported through the crowd."
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm like the character Bones or Brennan as she is also called. I don't mind the whole dating process but to become emotionally close and dependent on someone kind of makes me want to run in the other direction. I don't think being alone will make me happy so I just have overcome this hurtle. It's just hard.
Also I was thinking about this quote from Order of the Phoenix
"Potter and Chang!" screeched Pansy, to a chorus of snide giggles. "Urgh Chang, I don't think much of your taste... at least Diggory was good-looking!"
Well if Harry looks anything like Daniel Radcliffe then I think Cho's taste is just fine. In my opinion anyway.
and forgot to post it....
Ok I have a sore throat which makes me feel like I'm swallowing a thousand knives and possibly TMJ issues again but I'm not here to talk about that right now. I'm just going to discuss some people who fascinate me in my classes. There are these two guys in my FSHD 200 class that are huge and when I say huge I mean like tall and broad shouldered...essentially football type looking. In fact I think they are football players. My friend Monica who is in the class with me thinks they are unnaturally big and that they are on steroids. Yes we've actually sat and discussed them and WHILE they were sitting in the row in front of us to. But I've thought it over and I think that they aren't...I mean they could be but I also think they are twin brothers since they look like they are related and that they are the same age. So I think they could just be big by genetics.
And WOW my mom gave me some of king throat lozenge that says pain numbing relief on the box. And boy do they mean numbing because my whole mouth feels numb. I also feel a little nauseous right now which would be a continuation of how I felt all of last night. Also I had the weirdest dreams that were a mix of harry potter and snape, going on a cruise to Europe, being stuck up in this train like thing that was about five billion feet above London, and Disneyland.
Anyways on to the next
person which is this girl in one of my Friday discussion classes. I
always end up sitting next to her and not on purpose either. We usually
have to do group work in this class and I always think that I shouldn't
sit by her because when we have to do group work she doesn't say
anything. Not even like two words and I find it frustrating. Then on
this past Friday she was sitting in the hall waiting to go in to the
class when I got up there and she was reading this huge book and it was
a fantasy novel. So as I was leaving I was like why does this girl bug
me (not in a bad way) and then it hit me...she reminds me of me. I to
don't talk that much although I'm not really shy and I to will be found reading some large book waiting to get in to my next class.
Now I think I'll go make sure I have something good in my queue at Blockbuster to come to me next and then read Harry Potter before I die or you know pass out from all the cold medicine I had to take.
